The reasons for a journey like this are at least as many as the different reactions of the people I've told about it. Probably I'm not the kind of person from which one expects such a thing, and actually it seemed also to me quite weird at a first glance.
A very good book, Un altro giro di giostra by Tiziano Terzani, sparked off the row. The end of my studies paved the way. If not now, when? In the decision about my future, during the intense period of my thesis, I found myself into a choice, the Ph.D., I felt quite uneasy with at first, but which made its way into my motivation as the math text built up. It was this, and the need to unplug my mind (and my laptop), to escape from the nest and see how the jungle is like on the far side. To beat many flaws that I know to have, to understand the one I want to be like, to feel at least a little of the energy that the others can give to me and I to them. To analyse my givens and build new ones. To use the time now that I still have it, to open my mind and fill it with new.
I don' t know what will be next, and this is indeed a good reason.
